Southern tip of Manhattan, circa 1937
This beautiful view shows some of the most iconic buildings making up Lower Manhattan’s skyline. Foley Square/Thomas Paine Park is in the lower right of the image and City Hall Park is in the center of the image, with City Hall and the Tweed Courthouse just below them. The domed building on City Hall Park is the City Hall Post Office and Courthouse, which was demolished in 1939 with the space used to extend the park toward the south into its current triangular shape. From Left to Right across the image can be found the Bankers Trust Building (14 Wall St.), the Manhattan Municipal Building (1 Centre St.), 60 Wall Tower (70 Pine St.), the City Bank-Farmers Trust Building (20 Exchange St.), the Manhattan Trust Building (40 Wall St.), the Trust Company of America Building (37 Wall St), the Continental Bank Building (30 Broad St.), the Equitable Building (120 Broadway), the Bank of New York Building (1 Wall St.), the Singer Building (149 Broadway, demolished 1968), and the Woolworth Building (233 Broadway). The Statue of Liberty can be seen in the distance on the top right of the image.
