The predecessor to the Venice Amusement Pier shown here before it was destroyed by a fire on December 20, 1920. The pier was rebuilt by the summer of 1921.
The original Abbot Kinney Pier was destroyed by fire in December, 1920. It was replaced by the Venice Amusement Pier, a major attraction in Venice, then a seaside resort town to which residents of Santa Monica and Los Angeles flocked on weekends. The Ship Cafe was reoriented parallel to the shore when the pier was rebuilt.
