Empire State Building, December 16, 1939

New York’s iconic Empire State Building was completed in 1931 and was the tallest building in the world until 1970. First appearing in film in King Kong, released in 1933, with Kong standing atop the building battling a Curtiss F8C Helldiver airplane, the Empire State Building has been a fixture in the American imagination ever since. The iconic Chrysler Building sits to the right of the massive Empire State Building with the Queensboro Bridge in the background. Visible in the far ground, to the right of the spire of the Empire State Building and a little to the left can be seen the 1939-1940 World’s Fair Ground in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.
